Corporate’s artist residency: Nour Awada in immersion at Ekimetrics
ACTIVATION « LE BRUIT ET LE SIGNAL » (NOISE AND SIGNAL) Collective performance. Tuesday the 26th of November, 2019.
Artist of the Françoise platform, winner of the International Françoise Competition, Nour Awada concludes her residency with Luca Giacomoni titled “Art & Monde du travail” (art and workplace) within the data management company Ekimetrics.
The artist explored the professions of data collection and analysis as well as the construction of prediction models. She imagined the creation of a collective performance with the data scientists after being in full immersion within their teams.
The launching of this performance will take place on 26 November at the Lafayette Anticipations Foundation, in Paris.
An artist’s residency occurring in a corporation is an opportunity to:
- Question the process of production and/or analysis.
- Strengthen the internal social ties.
- Promote an original, singular, and responsible image.
The artwork offers the company a universal language.
Testimony of Nour Awada on the Ekimetrics residence
« Ekimetrics is a company that collects data, analyses the latter, and then builds prediction models.
However, analysis models that came before, and prediction models work according to two mathematical logics which are different. Sometimes, even contradictory.
The future is not just a linear projection of the past: machine learning algorithms are able to apprehend and therefore predict things, only if they are given the right information.
We constantly need a frame of thought, a human filter, who is able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Facing the interpretation of past data, which information is of value, and which one is irrelevant? In other words, how do you distinguish the noise from the signal?
This reflection has opened up new perspectives.
Every day we are faced with making a decision, individual or collective: where does the noise come from?
How do we hear the signals that exist around us?
More importantly, are we able to act accordingly and handle the transformations in progress?
The performance that will be presented on November 26 is our way of responding to these questions. » Nour Awada
